Almost all seniors fight a battle with senioritis after winter break. Their mindset about school changes and it’s a fight to wake up and go to school everyday. Assignments seem useless and attendance can become spotty.

Teachers and administrators know that many seniors feel this way, so many try to make school more enticing with games and fun treats. However, the last few months of school seem never ending to the class of 2023. Kylee See(12) states that senioritis really hit her when she “ was given [her] first assignment. [she] was so over it and had no motivation to complete it”. She was not alone. I personally felt this too when I got my first assignment, I pushed the due date till the last minute.

Some students lean on their favorite teachers for advice when dealing with low motivation. Most teachers give very inspirational advice but English teacher Mr.Rawlins says, “Just Go”. He continues, “you're almost at the end so just finish even if you barely finish just finish”. While this advice may seem harsh it is true. We are in the homestretch and while four months seems like a lot it really will pass by in no time.

Senior Ebrima Touray mentioned that his senioritis hit “when I got my college acceptance letter”. College acceptance letters flood in after winter break and once students hear they got into their dream schools many simply stop putting in the extra effort. Just knowing they already have everything they need makes the drive to do more decline.

The lack of motivation and decreased desire to work that you are feeling is not unordinary but normal. I have felt extra unmotivated and tired when it comes to school. We all must remember that we are almost to the finish line and our four years as a Bradley Jaguar are almost over. Take in every second and enjoy every moment. You will soon be adults in the real world and are going to miss walking through the doors of Bradley.
