‘It Ends With Us’ by Colleen Hoover gains a lot of interest at Bradley High School

by Katey Kirk, Staff writer

It Ends With Us By Colleen Hoover follows Lily Bloom and her journey through adulthood. She experiences many obstacles on her way and meets new people. The novel has gained popularity over the past couple of years and has many readers hooked on Colleen Hoover’s books. There are some tough subjects that are talked about in the book that people can either relate to or even sympathize with. The book talks about abusive relationships and trauma.

This book has a lot of depth to it and demonstrates what people in troubled relationships can go through and how much it impacts them. English teacher, Ms. Wulff, says, "It's a good depiction of domestic abuse in a relationship for those who don't necessarily know what it is." I think many people feel this way about the book, but it can be a hard book to read if you are sensitive to these kinds of topics. It Ends With Us shines light on situations that people might be too afraid to talk about.

It's not uncommon for people to go through these relationships. Colleen Hoover wrote this book from experience, basing it off of her mother and father's relationship. The novel expresses how much we might not know about someone. Jasmine Meyers (11) says, "[It Ends With Us] showed [me] how much someone could be going through without anyone knowing." I totally agree with this statement. I believe that's why Colleen Hoover wrote it in the first place. With others, it might be as simple as it was a good book. Rutbah Kamal (11) says, "It was really eye-opening." This book left students from Bradley more aware of abuse in relationships and now can learn from mistakes in Lily's relationship.

On the other hand, there have been some people who haven't read the novel and wouldn’t want to read it. Although they should give it a try, not everyone has to agree. Mr. Weber states, "I would not read [It Ends With Us] because I like to keep my media on the happy side."

This is totally understandable; not everyone has the same opinions on every book. However, I do believe that this book has a great ending, and if everyone gave it a read, they would be pleasantly surprised.

The most recent news of a sequel to It Ends With Us has me and many of Colleen Hoover’s fans very thrilled. It Starts With Us has been very anticipated as it's from Lily's old friends' point of view.

If you haven't read It Ends With Us, I would definitely recommend reading it. It might surprise you how much you can learn from it.
