Ginny & Georgia is an all time favorite show of everyone. Students at Bradley cannot stop talking about it. It all starts with Mary who is also Georgia when she runs away as a teen and later has her two kids Austin and Ginny. Georgia teaches her daughter not to make the same mistakes she did when she was young. Throughout the series others follow the journey of a mother and daughter, best friends and a family who are out in the world trying to survive. Georgia has a habit of getting involved in a relationship and for it to end badly, and later moving her family someplace else. This time, the lucky place is Wellsbury, Massachusetts where they navigate love problems, friendships, and secrets that could ruin their lives. But will Willsbury really be the place where they finally secrets? If you are intrigued, you should definitely watch!
Bradley students and teachers are big fans of the show. Sophia Boyd (10) has a very harsh opinion and some people may not agree with her, she says “I don’t like it, it’s stupid. It’s so cringy.” I don’t think it’s stupid but it is somewhat cringy which I can testify to. Allison Murrow comments by saying, “It does deserve all the hype.” The audience is always intrigued by a new show when it comes out and especially this one is spectacular. Bella Burgette (10) responds saying, “You should watch it because Georgia is a really good mom. The series is very funny.” To be honest it is really fun to watch but unfortunately it is very cringy so if you can’t stand shows like that I don’t recommend it for you.
The show is well liked by teens and it is the talk of school so I wanted to give it a try. Mrs. Kaufman says, “I just started watching it because it was a light hearted show, you know nothing really intense and I got addicted to it. I was also looking for something to watch and happened to cross it.” It can be light hearted at times but barely, though at least for me it can be very intense because it makes you think about so many teens feel that are half white and African American because of their relationship with their mom especially like Georgia with Ginny when that mom is white which makes it hard for the mother to understand her child because she is from the outside looking in. Mrs. Gmerek also has a lot to say, “I only watched season one, I feel like I have to be in the right headspace to watch season 2 because season one made me feel a lot of emotions so I have to prepare myself to feel more emotions in season 2. It’s not very light, it is a very heavy show and it makes me think about a lot of things. But I really love seeing interesting relationships between a mother and daughter and that’s really interesting to me as a mom of kids that are almost teenagers.” I do agree very much with Mrs. Gmerek’s thoughts about needing to be in the right mental health space before watching because it can significantly affect your thoughts.
I love this show and I see why everyone talks about it the way they do. There is a very important lesson to look out for when watching is that in high school making friends and surrounding yourself with people who actually care is the best accomplishment you can make. Because it will get you through those 4 years. My advice to you as a Sophomore and an upcoming Junior is to work hard until the last day and you will notice it in your environment.. But will the show loved by everyone come back for a third season? Will only know as time passes.
