Yelling yippee for yellow

The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.

Colors are a very simple thing to argue about. It’s completely opinionated making it completely ok to disagree with me. Bradley students and staff had their own thoughts on the matter, some positive and most negative. No matter what the majority may think, I assure you yellow is the best color.

Some feel very passionate about this color being subpar. Collin Grubbs (12)

had quite the opinion stating, “yellow contrary to popular belief is a grotesque color that represents all things tainted in the world. It’s the closest warm color to white but just enough off that it can’t be considered as pure.” While this is a quite dramatic way to look at it I can’t help but think that traditionally yellow represents happiness and more positive emotions. Yellow also blends very well with other colors like black, purple, navy blue, lavender, and so much more. Yellow alone may not look appealing but it is the glue that holds an outfit together.

The misplaced negativity continues as students among Bradley believe it isn’t

as splendid as I find it. One of such students, Brock Banda (12), has a strong take to dissect, “Yellow is by far the worst color” he says, which is already wrong as pantone 448 C is by far the worst color. He continues with, “the color is too bright and ugly when compared to other colors.” Which is also untrue as the neon line of colors makes everything it touches disgusting. Even more disdain for this beautiful color as Saif Al-Kaabi (12) says, “Yellow is a boring and ugly color.” It is short, simple, and blunt. Saif picked his wording carefully as everything he said is completely opinionated making it an ironclad defense. Even with the inability to combat that statement I think it is completely fair to disagree.

There is a beacon of hope, a light at the end of the tunnel here at Bradley.

Scott Caudill says “it’s one of my personal favorite colors but I also know it’s a very underrated color.” Throw the confetti something that fits my narrative! All jokes aside this is a good take on the color. The positivity continues with Mrs. Cunningham who says “the color yellow feels happy.” It truly does. It is Happy. Yellow has always been representative of it.

Even with majority of people disagreeing with my love of yellow, it continues

to be the best color. While the argument is completely based on opinion and makes it harder to change, it’s still possible. This is unlike fact. Facts like “the sky is blue” and “yellow is the best color”.
