As winterfest approaches fast there is one question:how are students and teachers feeling about it and how are they preparing to make it a great performance. As it stands winterfest is a stressful part for young musicians and it’s reflected in their thoughts. It doesn’t help much that it is during the exam period either.

This sentiment is held with Ellen Tabiri (12) who, when asked on the matter stated, “It’s gonna be very stressful because we are still trying to memorize the song all while getting ready for exams.” Which is understandable as getting a concert done the same day as exams can be demanding. However, some people, while stressed, are optimistic about the concert. One of these people is Ben Smith (12) who says “It’s gonna be a little stressful because it’s exam week and I need to study while also being at a concert, but choir is a fun place so it’s gonna be chill.” Which is completely understandable. It’s good that there are people who can be optimistic despite being extremely stressed.

In choir music must be memorized which can add one new layer to difficulty, this concern was displayed by Elyanna Rondon (12) who said “This year has been harder due to memorization. One of them specifically.” She later goes on to say “I’m excited to hear it though because I think we will be fine during winter fest but rehearsal is stressful right now.” Once again it is always good to see optimism when faced with difficulty.

This is also many seniors last winterfest making some sad goodbyes to an otherwise fun event. One of these goodbyes is made by Alex Vought (12) who stated, “I’m also sad because it’s the last winterfest I’ll ever be a part of as well as the fact it’s the first winterfest where I won’t be performing because I quit orchestra after sophomore year.” This sentiment is something many seniors can relate to as winterfest is, while stressful, an event that is looked forward to and a great send off to winter break.

All in all this winterfest is shaping out to be fantastic with all the effort, time, and emotion being poured into it. While everyone is stressed to a degree and wants exams to be over it is certain that this year's show will be one to remember.
