The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.
Amidst all the craziness of the upcoming election and Coronavirus pandemic, Bradley Theatre is putting on their first show of this year’s season, “Clue”. Based on the cult film and popular board game of the same name, “Clue” is a fully online production that can be viewed from the viewers’ own homes Friday (October 16th), Saturday (October 17th), and Sunday (October 18th). To figure out how to take part in this fun event, The Jaguar Times talked to some students and staff involved in putting on “Clue”.
Rachel Moore is the theatre director at Bradley and she couldn’t be more proud of “Clue”. She explained that “Clue is 90 minutes of pure fun. [She is] so excited for the opportunity to have people stream the show from the comfort of their own homes to watch this crazy show. The cast and crew have worked so hard to make a show the audience will love. Support Bradley Theater!”. But as everyone has learned these past few months, doing the things we love can be a challenge. Assistant theatre director, Emily Kacsandi, said that “[they] definitely had some obstacles. [They] had restrictions as to how long [they] could be in a room together, so [they] rehearsed outside for a while before [they] had to permanently move inside. Obviously there was the issue of wearing masks on stage and maintaining as much social distancing as [they] could. [They] tried to work in some theater magic, though, to make everything move as seamlessly as possible. It was definitely new and something [She’s] never had to deal with it, but the cast was amazing and such troopers. Rachel really outdid herself coming up with new and smart ways to make everything come together as fluidly and safely as possible.” The directors, Rachel and Emily, have clearly worked so hard to make this opportunity available for their students and Bradley is so lucky to have them!
The students have also worked hard these past few months to put on a fun show and had a lot of fun doing it. Jessica Cline (10) shared that “[her] favorite scene is scene 14. It’s the last scene but it’s also the hardest. There are many sound cues which [she] has to direct because [she’s] sound but the sound cues add so much to that certain scene. Scene 14 is basically all of the actors run room to room when someone accuses someone else for murdering the people who died in the show.” It sounds like the tech crew has done an awesome job, and so has the cast! Audrey Schmidt (12) told us that “what [she] would like to say to the cast, crew, and our directors is THANK YOU!! Having the opportunity to be back in the PAC made life feel just a little bit more normal, which [she] feel[s] like a lot of [them] appreciate. It was such a complicated process, but everyone really gave it their all to make it happen.” Braden Evans (12) added, “to put it simply, Clue is hilarious. Even in the beginning stages of the show, it was hard not to laugh at all of the funny moments and one liners. The audience is bound to enjoy a much deserved good laugh.” Everyone just wants some normalcy and fun back in their lives, and it sounds like this show was exactly that for these students!
