It’s homecoming week! The week approached us quickly, and Bradley students and staff are getting ready for the big dance. Join us on the football field at seven on Saturday the 24th! Grab your dates, get your outfits together, take some pictures, and make this a night to remember!

Bradley staff member and event coordinator explains all of the activities this week leading up to the dance on Saturday. “We have the powderpuff game on Wednesday night, we’re having a pep rally Friday afternoon during school, we’re having the parade Friday before the game, [and] there’s the football game where we crown our homecoming king and queen during halftime.” With endless activities, students have every way to show some school spirit this week.

This year, the seniors are full of excitement to make it a memorable year, and with that fact they are also excited to plan things. However, they did not get to help plan this event, and a lot of seniors agree with Chloe Sayre (12) when she says that “I think the upperclassmen should [have been] in charge of planning homecoming.” Older students know the school well and believe they would have good input to making the dance as best as can be.

Despite popular belief, it never has been the seniors responsibility to plan homecoming. Math teacher and class cabinet staff member Mrs. Burke says, “the freshman and sophomore class cabinet are always responsible for planning homecoming because it’s their budget that is used for the dance.” This did not end up happening this year as the freshman and sophomore class cabinet is not finalized because “this year [homecoming has] just come up so quickly,” Burke mentions. Faculty took the responsibility of planning the event, and students have themselves a fun, eventful week.

On September 19th, Principal Warfield sent a canvas message during the school day that said that previous graduates under the age of 21 are allowed to attend the dance. This being said, students from other districts are not allowed to attend. Students have mixed feelings about this, but Emma Abate (11) says she’s “happy about it because [her] boyfriend graduated. He’s only 18 though, so the whole 21 thing doesn’t really matter to [her] because he just turned 18.” Abate makes a good point when she adds that she “feel[s] like it’s okay for him to come because there are kids at our school who are 18, and he is a Bradley graduate.” More concern from the school is about being in the presence of perhaps a 20 year old.

When students arrive at the homecoming dance, they should go to the football field, just like last year. Some students are happy about this, like Jennie Craddock (12). She says, “I am looking forward to it being on the field but I know there are a lot of people that would rather it be inside.” The field setting is still a safer option, and if the space is utilized correctly students shouldn’t have any complaints.

It is common for students to get in groups and plan the night together. Amelia Harris (11) shares her plans, “a couple friends and I are going to go out to eat and then we’re going to go to homecoming for a little bit.” To experience the night as a group is a must. Sayre mentions that she’s “looking forward to homecoming because it’s [her] senior year so it’s the last one.” Seniors ending their high school years should make it count, and homecoming week is a perfect start!

The energy and school spirit this year has started off extremely strong! Let’s see how the students jags bring their energy to the homecoming activities and dance itself. Participation in events creates the greatest high school memories! Get fancy and come on out.
