The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.
Students are officially in the last half of the school year. For most students this is just like every other year, however, for seniors this is their final goodbye to their time at Hilliard Bradley High School.
This also marks a time of both great certainty alongside confusion amongst seniors. Many seniors have been accepted to colleges and know exactly where they’re going, while others are still waiting to hear back or are still trying to make a decision. Amongst these students are also some looking to join the workforce or military after their graduation ceremony.
Many seniors still haven’t heard back from some colleges they have applied to. Autumn Bernava (12) says, “I’m not accepted to the college I want to go to yet. I’ll know between February 15th- March 15th.” It’s easy to feel stressed out while awaiting college acceptance, just try to take it easy and you will hear from the school soon enough.
A few seniors are fully set on where they’ll be attending college next year. Clara Richardson (12) has been certain on where she’s going since last year. She says, “ I’m going to Ashland and majoring in exercise science. I’m committed to play soccer and I’m really excited for graduation.” It’s incredible to see students finding the right fit for them and their excitement as their post high school plans rapidly approach.
As the school year comes to an end, teachers are also having to say goodbye to students that they have gotten to know well over the past four years. Math teacher, Mr. Heinlen sends the seniors off with some advice, “find your passions. Join the quidditch team if you’re going to college.” He continues, “Also, don’t be afraid to try something new and make as many connections as you can cause you never know when you’re going to get invited to Japan.” Although Mr. Heinlen has rather specific advice, it may resonate with some students.
English teacher, Miss. Wulff adds, “enjoy it while you can because you guys are going to be adults on your own, so enjoy being a kid while you can.” It’s important for seniors to make new connections and really enjoy the moment that they’re present in.
Graduation takes place May 25th. There’s still a little bit of senior year left, so if you’re a senior… make sure to enjoy it. If you’re not then be kind to a senior today.
