Powderpuff makes changes this year, students looking forward to game

The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.

Homecoming week is around the corner, and Bradley is preparing for one of their favorite traditions at Hilliard Bradley High School, powderpuff football! Powderpuff is flag football, but with the roles reversed. Instead of the boys playing football, it is now the girls playing, and it is now the boys who will be coaching.

The Jaguar Times asked Mrs. Cowles to explain how the whole process will work. She said,“If you are participating you have to come to at least one practice on Monday or Tuesday of the week so it’s during homecoming week. Wednesday is the night of the game so our players and coaches are going to get there at 6:30pm, but the actual game is going to start at 7pm. If you want to come and watch the game it will be $2.00 to get in."

Everyone is always so curious about how our school makes the powderpuff shirt colors and why they’re always the same so Mr. Allen explained, “those are the traditional class colors at Bradley High School so we just went with those typical colors. Usually, as is the case this year for homecoming, the theme is neon and so make sure you’re wearing your neon for homecoming!”

This year we wanted to get some people from our schools' thoughts on how each team will play in the game and cheer on the sidelines. We asked one of our Varsity cheerleaders, Haylie Elosh about her thoughts on how she thinks the senior guys will cheer at the game next Wednesday, September 21st. “We haven’t had a lot of cheerleaders from my grade in the past but I’m hoping they come out for their senior year and cheer for our senior girls."

Hilliard Bradley High School is one hundred percent a football loving community. Varsity football player EJ Teah said “I definitely think that us seniors are going to win. It’s going to be a good game so I’m thinking the score will be 21-10” (EJ Teah). Senior Katy Grainger also gave for her thoughts on the game. “I think the seniors are going to win, and I think the score is going to be 21-14.”

It sounds like the seniors think they will be the champions of the game. Good luck to all players and stay tuned to see how it turns out next week.
