The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.
Everyday we see students making positive contributions to help better the Bradley community in some way, one of these students being Izzy Michel! As a junior, Michel is a Bradley and Columbus State student hoping to receive her associates degree upon graduation. With a full schedule, she still makes time to come out and support every Jaguar in some way. Izzy comes to football games, cross country races, and volleyball games and captures every special moment she can.
When talking about why she started taking photos Izzy states,“I used to take photos for my family all the time, after helping a friend with a bridal shower I quickly realized I loved doing it and wanted to take photos more often.” The photos she took from the bridal shower were the first of many to be posted on her social media, in an effort to grow exposure to her new business. As an athlete herself, she knows the importance of capturing every moment and memory. When discussing her motivation to take photos of the Bradley students Izzy mentions, “I assume most athletes are the same so I started going to games and taking photos.”Her audience grew during football games as students in the stands started asking for photos left and right. Many use her photos on social media and some even scheduled her to take their senior photos. When asked if she thought her photos made any difference Izzy said, “I hope to have shared the joy and excitement I saw through my camera to everyone behind it.” She then continues to say, “I loved being able to capture those moments for Bradley students!” Her amazing eye for a special moment allows for so many amazing photos!
Many don’t understand the importance of the small acts they do, in this case Michels photos make a big impact on her peers. Jada VanSteevoort (11) said, “some of the photos she took are my favorite photos of me and my friends” and even goes further to say, “I couldn’t wait to see her new photos every weekend after football games!” VanSteevoort wasn’t the only one who realized Izzy's talent, Lauren Schuler (9) says that, “I liked that the photos showed so many people.” Michels' photos ranged from football players, to the cheerleaders and even the priceless reactions of students' faces during touchdowns and great passes.
