The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.
This year has been crazy and there have been numerous twists and turns the world wasn’t anticipating. With that being said, many people are very excited to move into 2021. With every year comes a new realm of possibilities and while we are still entering 2021 with a lot of baggage, students are still making their New Year's resolutions. The Jaguar Times wanted to see what these resolutions were, so we asked students about their new goals and why they chose them.
When asked what his goals for 2021 were, Quinn Henoch (12) commented, “My New Year's resolution is to be more active! I picked it because I feel like I spend too much time inside, especially since COVID has stopped so many activities.” Quarantine definitely made a lot of people more sedentary because of gyms closing, so being more active is a great goal! Brayden Bentley (12) had a similar resolution of “getting stronger”. When creating goals involving exercise, making more general plans like these students are amazing ideas! That way you are reaching your fitness ambitions in a gradual, healthy manner. Students are also focusing on their physical health in other ways. Katie Ashline (12) wants to “fix her sleeping schedule.” This change will definitely make her feel better throughout the day and reduce stress levels!
Some students decided to make goals regarding their mental health this year. Piper Brill (10) said her resolution is, “to spend more time on self care in hopes of a happier and healthier year!” Self care is so important, yet is something that is often overlooked when life becomes busy. It is really vital to prioritize your well-being and take the time to take care of yourself. Some ways to do this is meditation, trying new things, doing a face mask, or reading a book!
Overall, New Year's resolutions are super fun, but it’s crucial to not put too much pressure on yourself. Make sure you set realistic goals that will make you feel better mentally and physically. So if you are feeling up to making some changes this year The Jag Times encourages you to make a resolution that will help you get a fresh start this upcoming year!
