As the end of the year approaches students and staff in the music department
prepare to put together one last performance. Seniors are filled with mixed emotions and underclassmen are excited for next year’s adventures. Overall this year will be new, exciting and a fresh restart for the choir after the mess that was Covid.
The word new has and will be thrown around which may throw some off. What
could be “new” in a choral arrangement? Well, the choir isn’t doing any choral songs. When asked about how excited she was for the concert Mrs. Shott (Choir teacher) stated “I’m excited for this concert because it's so different from our other concerts this year because we are playing only pop songs and different instruments!” The use of different instruments and new songs will make this performance one you won’t want to miss.
In terms of the new songs the choir is singing Light of the Clear Blue Morning by Dolly Parton, Shine like Stars by Pinkzebra, and Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen to name a few. All of these songs are exciting for everyone however, one is sentimental to Audrey Brown (12) who when asked what song she was most excited about said “I’m most excited to sing “Light of The Clear Blue Morning” because we sang that song in the 8th grade and we’re bringing it back as an SATB version! It’s gonna be an awesome throwback for the women of our senior class.” The enthusiasm for the songs being sung continues with Elyanna Rondon (12) who said “I’m Excited to sing songs that people actually know for once. It’s really cool to hear a big group of people sing pop songs because we’re not used to hearing it.” Even Mr. Witt (choir teacher), the man behind it all, was willing to share the song he can’t wait to hear, he said “I’m very excited for all the choirs to sing together on Shine like Stars.”
In the performance the audience can expect to see two solos, a duet, and a quartet in the various songs. One of the members of the quartet, Alexa Fearing (11) said “I think at this point in the year we have come together as a choir and sound the best we have so far, so I’m excited to showcase that for everyone.” The quartet can be seen in Dolly Parton’s Light of the Clear Blue Morning. One of the soloists, Ellis Goodwin (11) “I’m actually doing a solo for a song by Dolly Parton. It’s called “Light of the Clear Blue Morning.” I’m really excited about that!” The other soloist and duet are both found in Don’t Stop Me Now!
All in all this end of the year concert is going to be one to remember. It has everything one could want from, pop songs, interesting instruments, and spirit from the choir itself! Make sure you mark May 17th off so you can show up to the last choir concert of the school year!
