Hilliard Bradley High School’s theater will be starting off the school year with a show called Steel Magnolias! Bradley students saw how much of a toll COVID-19 took on the theater department. Changers within the school throughout the pandemic forced theater to try and find a new normal. Within the past year Bradley theater has worked hard to make sure the show goes on. Will the imagination behind the creation of Steel Magnolias come to life? Come see for yourself October 8th through October 10th here at the Hilliard Bradley High School Performing Arts Center.

Jackie Jones (12) plays Shelby Latcherie as part of the cast in Steel Magnolias. Jackie explains her character “is the daughter of M’Lynn Eatenton, is 25 years old, and lives in town with them and marries Jackson Latcherie.” She mentions that “you will also see Shelbie and Jackson before and after their marriage.”With this in mind, the show should give others hope and inspiration because it can show us that we are not alone when it comes to hardships in our lives there are some people who go through similar things every day, and this will be a great representation of that.” Jackie commented, “the story talks about a hair salon with a woman named Treuvie who works with others; it's all about the Southern town locals who come and get their hair done.” This character is very interesting because you can see how someone is able to surpass obstacles.

Madison Sheard (10) who is the costume and props manager says, “she is very excited for the play to start, she states that the directors for the play have already started making the costumes for the play.” Most importantly this story talks about the way friendship is among women. Jessica Cline (11), the tech vice president, talks about her role in the play: “currently when making a set for a show and as assistant tech director, I help the tech director with everything that he needs within the show as the rehearsal process goes on. Elijah Qualls (11), the social media manager talks about his job as a media manager: “I work with the other social media managers and the historian to get pictures mainly into their Instagram and Twitter. We get people to come to our shows and join our theater troupe to either be part of the tech crew or to audition for our next show.”

The Steel Magnolias cast is expecting the show to be very emotional, because it shows how love and friendship can solve anything when trying hard enough. Bradley theater hopes to see you come out and support Steel Magnolias and everyone that has put a lot of effort and work into the show. This show is going to be a great start for Bradley’s theater program for the 2021-2022 school year. Don’t miss out on this incredible experience, be on the lookout for ticket sales and mark your calendars!
