Hilliard Bradley High School is a school with students from different religions, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds. Every student has a way they like to dress. Fashion is a way of expressing those cultures and who we are as people.
Eliana Canlas (10) says that her go-to outfit is “wide leg pants with a tank top and a flannel.” While this is Eliana’s go to outfit it varies for every student at Bradley. While leg pants were a big style in the 90’s and are coming around again.
What students wear also depends on the day. There are days when students like to dress casual and comfortable and days when students like to dress up or have to dress up for sports. Breck Grubbs (10) states, “I like to wear sweatpants and sweatshirts because it’s comfortable and easy to grab.” A lot of students go for comfort and convenience when they have to get up early.
On the other hand, Claire Copeland (10) says, “When I dress up I like to wear dresses.” She also says that she gets her inspiration Pinterest and her styles has evolved from bright clothes to more neutral colored clothes that she feels more comfortable in.
Mrs. Fought, an English teacher at Bradley, says, “I think a lot of people wear just athletic wear like t-shirts and shorts and are super comfortable, but then there’s other people who are super fashionable so I really think it’s just a wide range of everything.”
Clothing trends change through the years so every year there’s always something new people are wearing, this year there are lots of students wearing cargo pants and tank tops. Ms. Kowalski states, “It is definitely different from when I was in high school, and I attribute it to social media. Back then we were tragic and had no idea what a skin care routine was, plus we had a dress code! I would say most students at Bradley are pretty casual and dressed down. A lot of sweatpants/pjs, but when they try to dress up, they bring it!”
Styles now have changed from when Bradley’s teachers were in high school. Most teachers went to high school in the 2000’s and 1990’s. Styles back then were lots of pleather, animal prints, and styles that have come back like crop tops and wide leg pants.
Fashion has definitely changed over the years, and style changes over decades.
