The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.

As the 2021-2022 school year begins, many of the staff members and students are using the past few years of school to make predictions and hopes for this new (and hopefully better) school year. Many of these people are very thrilled for what this year has in store! The Jaguar Times has made a comeback and found out what this school year means to many of the faces in Hilliard Bradley High School.

As a new face and new principal to Bradley, Mr. Warfield is hopeful that this school year is going to be a great one! Out of all the things there are to be excited about, Warfield is the most excited about building relationships with staff and students. Warfield says, “What I’m really looking forward to is building relationships with our staff and our students”. Warfield has also recognized the traditions that Bradley high school holds. He says he is excited to “continue and build some traditions that are here”. Warfield continued to talk about how he wants to make sure with this that everyone is “having a great experience and enjoying their time while here at Bradley."

Additionally, Warfield wants to “continue the momentum that we have going right now”. The school year so far has been off to a great start and he wants to make sure that staff and students truly feel like Bradley is their “home”. Warfield concludes his statement by saying all he wants is for the faces in Bradley to be saying , “We’re excited to be back, we’re excited about our teachers, we’re excited about our students, and we’re just excited about being Jaguars”. Warfield thinks that as long as staff and students can pull this type of attitude off (which at this rate, is going very well), then it’s going to be a great year!

On the other hand, there are many students in their last year as a jaguar, like senior Nick Caruso. Caruso says he’s looking forward to “getting ready for college”. After five years of being a Jaguar, Caruso’s final year is advancing. Caruso has found himself very involved in sports and clubs as well, which he is also looking forward to continuing this year.

Another senior, David Perry has also found himself being very involved in sports and clubs, class cabinet being one of the clubs that he expresses interest in this school year. Perry says he predicts “I will win class cabinet”. The date was September 9, 2021 (one day before the list of class cabinet members came out) when Perry made this prediction. The senior class cabinet announcement revealed that Perry was going to be a class cabinet member. Perry is looking forward to being a part of this group in his final year of high school!

There are many teachers who have been teaching at Bradley and have seen both the good and bad as far as school years. Chemistry teacher Mrs. Forquer is one of those teachers. Being a chemistry teacher during a global pandemic when you can’t do hands-on labs is pretty difficult. This is why this year is so special to Forquer who says the students “don’t know what they don’t know...I think I know what’s in store for [the chemistry students], and they don’t”. Because Forquer has been teaching chemistry and has been doing the same labs for years, she’s excited to finally be able to share all of the fun with her students again.

Forquer also thinks that it’s going to be a really great school year. She mentions how she thinks everyone wants to move forward [from the negative aspects of the pandemic] and make the best out of everyday!”. Similar to Forquer, the Jaguar times is excited to be back and bringing the news to Bradley high school…We can’t wait for a great year!
