As the school year begins to wrap up and summer starts, the food topic begins to shift to ice cream. Staff and students at Bradley tend to be pretty basic when it comes to ice cream, but the Jaguar Times found out the scoop to the ice cream favorites of Bradley high school.

You can never go wrong with a classic restaurant that specializes in ice cream, such as Graeter’s. History teacher Mr. Bleh argues that this is his favorite ice cream shop. He claims this is because he is a “Cincinnati Native (and so is Graeter’s)”. When he was growing up, Graeter’s was considered “fancy” because of its price. His two favorite ice cream flavors, chocolate chip and black raspberry chip, were saved for special occasions when he was growing up.

Sometimes fast food restaurants’ ice cream can be the best kind of ice cream. Math teacher Mrs. Horne argues that Dairy Queen is her go-to place. She explains that this is because she is “old school” and loves “a good blizzard from Dairy Queen”. Her favorite is a “Reese’s peanut butter cup blizzard with chocolate ice cream”. Dairy Queen might offer a variety of foods on their menu but Horne loves her blizzard order because it includes her “favorite sweets: chocolate [and] peanut butter”.

Similarly, Delaney Warner (10) can argue that McDonald’s ice cream is her favorite. Warner says, “It just hits [differently] when the machine actually works”. This was said by Warner in response to a running joke amongst teens about Mcdonalds’ ice cream machine being broken often. She implies that you can never go wrong with a “vanilla cone” whenever you are looking for an ice cream dessert at the fast food restaurant.

Students around Bradley also tend to love more locally-owned ice cream shops, such as Handel’s. Jennie Craddock (10) explains that her favorite place to go for ice cream is Handel's because of “all of the flavors they have”. In addition to many great flavors, Handel’s also offers a great experience. Mackenzie Kaminicki (9) says her go-to ice cream shop is also Handles because, “They’re open all the time and they have really good service”. Handlel’s offers many different flavors, including pet-friendly ice cream. Craddock recommends getting Brookie dough (a combination of brownie dough and cookie dough) and Kaminicki recommends Ore-dough (a combination of Oreo and cookie dough).

Whether you are looking for a more local ice cream shop, or a chain restaurant that serves great ice cream, Hilliard has many options when looking for a sweet treat this summer. You can pick any of these desserts when you want to treat yourself to something delicious, as the weather is warming up. You deserve it!
