Bradley students are entering thanksgiving break. Thoughts on the holidays' best desserts have been expressed adamantly. Pie’s we’re certainly a common favorite. But there were other desserts that were expressed as well.

Pumpkin pie was orchestra teacher Mrs Broadhurst’s favorite. She however had a reasoning beyond just the taste of the beloved dish. She shared that she makes a pumpkin pie “out of a pumpkin” for her and her family. She is certainly not the only one who enjoys pumpkin pie on thanksgiving. 9th grader Addison Rooney also shared that pumpkin pie was her favorite because “it feels like thanksgiving”. She’s not the only one who associates pumpkin pie with thanksgiving. A study from Tastewise shows that the consumption of pumpkin pie significantly increased through the months of September, October, and November in 2021. The study also shows that the dessert is becoming more popular with a 73% yearly consumption growth rate.

Key lime pie was also a favorite dessert. Key lime pie is a much less popular thanksgiving dessert but still beloved by many. Another study from Tastewise shows that key lime pie is more popular as a year round dessert. The dessert did however have a small consumption spike in November of 2021. However the dessert is becoming less popular with a -64% yearly consumption growth rate.

Cheesecake was another popular mention. 10th grader Gracyn Hansley said that one of her favorite desserts was cheesecake for its “rich and creamy” texture and being “flavorful but not too strong”. Cheesecake is also shown as a popular thanksgiving dessert by another Tastewise study. Through June of 2021 to July of 2022 cheesecake consumption rate peaked in November of 2021. Cheesecake also has a -21% yearly consumption rate.

Chocolate chip cookies were also shared. The popular year round dessert is good for every occasion. The dessert has many different variations and combinations. With the love for this common versatile dessert it’s no surprise it was mentioned. Tastewise shows that the cookie has a 15% yearly consumption growth rate to no one’s surprise.

Thanksgiving is a time for people to enjoy the company of family and be grateful for all they have. Including all desserts. Happy Thanksgiving!
