Midday Thursday September 8th, the longest reigning British monarch in history, Queen Elizabeth II died of unknown circumstances. At 96 years of age she dies in her Scottish estate, Balmoral Castle. She has outserved 14 presidents and 15 prime ministers in her 70 years on the throne. Passing just 16 months after her late husband Prince Philips, handing the throne to their son Prince Charles.

Many students and staff at Bradley have mixed emotions about her death. Meagan Kirk (10), explains her thoughts “it’s sad that she passed away, but there’s more important things to worry about. Like Pakistan flooding, inflation, and climate change”. The Queen was a really significant figure to society and the world in general. But time won’t stop moving because of one person’s death. There are still things in the world that need our attention.

Mrs. Cowles, a 9th grade English teacher says, “the loss of Queen Elizabeth was well expected because she was super old. It is still kind of shocking just because she is the only Queen that any of us will have in our lifetime, now the line of succession is all men for the most part. She’s a feminist icon and she is also the one who changed the law so that women can be Queen”. It seems like she was loved and respected in all the years she has lived. Nima Raychaudhruri (9) states, “ the queen is a girl boss, she was the longest living monarch and [that’s] pretty cool”. To some she was a role model to look up to, as she will forever be missed. Mr. Vankirk, a world studies teacher says, “it was really sad for me but not shocking, [I] just respected her a great deal”. Let’s hope that her heir will serve just as rightfully and proudly as she did.

A new era of British royalty has begun. As King Charles III takes the throne the Queen will not be forgotten. Charles III states in his first address as King, “I speak to you today with feelings of profound sorrow. Through her life, Her Majesty the Queen – My beloved Mother – was an inspiration and example to me and all of my family, and we can owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe their mother” For the royal family the pain and sorrow run deep.
