by Avah Fetzer, Entertainment Editor

The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.

As Halloween is approaching, the Jaguar Times has been getting into the “spooky season” spirit by sharing ghost stories of our own. There are many unforgettable ghost stories, told by various Jaguar Times members. Please sit back, grab a snack, and enjoy the untold ghost stories of the Jaguar Times.

After arts, style and beauty editor Hannah Boggs’ (12) Aunt and Uncle had recently passed away, they were at her Aunt’s house when they heard a strange sound coming from her mom’s phone. The sound was a song, but it wasn’t just any song. The song happened to be her Aunt’s favorite song. She thought this was strange because there was no proof of searches that could’ve led to this song playing, and her mom didn’t have this song downloaded on her phone.

Another time when her family was at her Aunt and Uncle’s house, everyone was asleep when a vase flew across the room off of a shelf. Boggs claims, “That’s the kind of stuff you see in horror movies; you don’t expect that to happen in real life”. Other times Boggs mentioned lights being on in the house that were visible from the outside, when no one was home. This is seemingly ghost-related because the lights are motion censored.

Story two: a nervous feeling

Editor-in-Chief, Jayla Shanmugam (12) lived in a house from the time she was born and until she was 12, that had weird energy throughout the house. One night she was laying in bed and watching TV when she decided to go to bed shortly after 3AM. When she went to turn off her lights, she claimed that she “got a really bad feeling”, so she decided not to turn off her lights quite yet. All of a sudden, the large, wooden, heavy jewelry cabinet that she had, completely fell onto the ground. Shanmugam states that her windows weren’t open, and her cats weren’t in there, so she has no idea how this hefty piece of furniture, that needed a lot of force to fall down, had fallen. Shanmugam says, “To this day I have no idea what happened, but it definitely freaked me out”.

Story three: the blood curdling butler

Opinion editor, Charlie Kaneer (12), has many spooky stories to share. He used to live with his Grandma in her house, which he says was always scary. One time, his door was very broken and in order to open the door, you had to slam your body into the door. This made it very hard for it to open and close on its own, or with the help of a gust of wind. His door would constantly open and close on it’s own and he said, “I wish it were just me that saw it, but multiple times my friends had seen it, my grandma had watched it happen”. The door would open, stay open for a little bit, close, and then latch again. As a joke, Kaneer started calling this ghost “the butler”.

One night it was a little after 3AM when Kaneer was watching YouTube and had various other things on, which used power. His door was shut. When his door opened randomly Kaneer said, “oh hey, what’s going on” to the butler and his door shut, latched, and everything that used power in his room, turned off. He screamed, opened the door, and ran out of his room. The second his foot crossed the other side of his door, everything turned back on. Kaneer checked the rest of his house, and it turned out that his room was the only room where the power turned off. Periodically, his door continued to open and close, and sometimes his TV would glitch out. He was so freaked out by “the butler”, that he says, “I eventually took a vacation from the house because it was driving me insane, and it hasn’t happened again ever since then”.

Whether you believe these stories were just a coincidence, or they were caused by a ghost, they are certainly frightening. The Jaguar Times wishes you a happy Halloween and hopes you have a not too spooky, spooky season.
