The Met Gala has returned! With the decrease in covid protocols and restrictions, the annual Met Gala was held at the usual time this year in the month of May. Celebrities of all statuses, backgrounds, and talents got together at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to contribute to the “Gilded Glamor” theme.

What were some of the best looks? Though it is open for discussion, it is important to remember that you’re supposed to be creative… the Met Gala represents how fashion is a form of art. The basic black and white tuxedo isn’t going to make the cut. How are celebrities following the 1870-1890’s theme with their outfits?

Co-hosting the event this year alongside husband Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively won over the internet with this look by Versace. Perfectly following the theme, Lively showed up in a dress that represented the Statue of Liberty in the fact that the monument was once copper. As Blake Lively stepped out onto the carpet, the dress turned the blue-green color of the Statue of Liberty, representing the color change due to reactions involving oxygen and even air pollution. Lively’s look goes along with “Gilded Glamor” because the Statue of Liberty was delivered by France to the United States in 1885.

Another Versace look, Gigi Hadid also wore one of the best looks of the night. She had a modern take on the theme, wearing an all-leather corset bodysuit with a large burgundy puffer coat. Her look is monochrome, with her necklace and lips matching the rest of the look. This was a very creative interpretation of the theme with the “liquid latex” suit. Hadid surely stood out and only enhanced the Versace brand.

With only a week of preparation for her Met Gala look, Megan Thee Stallion arrived in a golden gown designed by creative director Jeremy Scott. Fitting into the theme, her look is inspired by the infamous moldings of a gilded-age mansion. The sequin and beaded tight-fitting dress gave her the confidence she wanted, and she got the desired moment on the stairs that she wanted.

Fashion model Winnie Harlow and singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor took the Met Gala to the next level this year. Though they are less known than others at the Met Gala, they are known to have owned the event this year with their looks. Their takes on ”Gilded Glamor” were similar but completely different at the same time with both being designed by Iris van Herpen. Both looks embraced the theme with the chosen silhouettes, design, and detailing.

Known as the mysterious look of the night, another less-known attendee known as Fredrik Robertsson showed up in Iris van Herpen and managed to stand out at the Met Gala. His viral interpretation of “Gilded Glamor” was even mistaken for Jared Leto. The gender fluid one-of-a-kind look was big on representing liberty in the United States and was sustainably crafted.
