The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.

With the NFL season approaching, it’s important to get all football fans prepared for it. We will scope out the layout of the league before we dive into the 17 game season. The Jaguar Times went out to get some of the student body’s opinions on the upcoming NFL season.

With every new season a new NFL team emerges out of nowhere. Last year the Steelers started their season 11-0 and had people on notice. The Jaguar Times went out and asked some students who their surprise team is for this year. “My surprise team is definitely the Cowboys especially if Dak Prescott plays like he did before his injury” ...“and their new defense additions truly help them in a weaker division like the NFC East” (Nathan Langer, 10). The Cowboys will definitely put the league on standby if they get hot with an explosive offense and speedy defense. “I’d say my surprise team is the Dolphins because I think Tua will have a great sophomore year” ...“he will have an easier time adjusting throughout the season due to him starting out the gate” (Noah Kirk, 11). The Dolphins are a great team to lookout for in the AFC after last season. They made a late season push to get in the playoffs but ultimately getting knocked from contention. They were right on the bubble at 10-6. That should add extra motivation to their squad; they've also added more defensive help to their roster.

At the beginning of the season, it’s always fun to make predictions about records and stats to look back at and see if you nailed or missed on some of them. With that being said, The Jaguar Times got some predictions from students on this year’s Super Bowl. Andrew Custer weighed in saying, “My Super Bowl prediction this year has got to be Ravens and Buccaneers where the Buccaneers win” (Andrew Custer, 11). That’s a solid prediction especially when the Ravens and Lamar Jackson are projected to have a breakout year. The Buccaneers are also riding high off a Super Bowl win and are looking to repeat with veteran Tom Brady in his 22nd season anything is possible. “My Super Bowl prediction is the Bears vs the Browns especially when it comes to defense.” “Both teams are poised and ready to break out onto the championship stage” (Max Hockman, 11).

That was a very bold team especially when the Browns just made the playoffs for the first time in over 20 years last season. The Bears have been falling off here recently but Justin Fields may be able to turn it around for Chicago.

When it comes to the NFL, it’s hard to tell what might happen. The Buccaneers look to repeat and have a great chance to do that. That’s why NFL fans love to watch and see as the season goes on! Make sure to tune into the standings this year to see if these predictions come true! Make your own as well to impress your friends!
