The following story was written by a student on the staff of The Jaguar Times as part of Hilliard Bradley High School’s Journalism Production course.
On Tuesday October fifth, the MLB Playoffs officially began. With both wildcard games being played on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week some of the predictions that the Bradley students and staff have made about the playoffs are already looking rough.
In one instance The Jag Times interviewed Bradley student Andrew Custer and asked who he thought were the underdogs for the NL. He said this “I think the underdog for the NL is the St Louis Cardinals.” He also explained, “I think the Cardinals have a chance because they have had very reliable pitching to finish the season and have been the hottest team finishing off the last 22 game stretch with a very good 19-3 record.” Even with Andrew's belief in the Cardinals with their “reliable pitching” they got eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday by a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th.
Also interviewed was Nick Caruso and he had a pretty popular opinion when he said “I think the favorite in the AL is the Tampa Bay Rays.” Hunter Houser also thought “I think the favorite for the AL is the Tampa Bay Ray” It’s no surprise that the Tampa Bay Rays are the favorite for the AL. With the Rays being the only team in the AL to crack 100 wins on the season. Even Mr. Desenberg thinks “The Tampa Bays Rays are the Favorite”
With the NL it was pretty split on who the favorite was with multiple students and staff picking different teams. Max Vosters a senior thinks “The favorite for the NL is the Giants” With the San Francisco Giants winning 107 games this year that is not a controversial choice. Even with the Giants winning 107 games they aren’t the clear cut favorite by any means because the Los Angeles Dodgers won 106 games this year being only one game back from the Giants. Mr. Bobek says “I really like the Dodgers chances.” With the NL being so split it should make it a fun postseason to watch.
